CHEYENNE, Wyo.—A squadron in charge of maintaining nuclear missiles is being relocated to F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
The Air Force Global Strike Command announced Thursday that the Global Strike Command Missile Engineer Squadron is being moved to Cheyenne from Colorado Springs, Colo.
The 24-member unit had been under Air Force Space Command until being moved to the new Air Force Global Strike Command two years ago. The move to Cheyenne puts the unit closer to the missiles it services that are based in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports the squadron is the only unit in the U.S. in charge of maintaining onshore nuclear missiles. The unit does everything from moving missiles into and out of silos to servicing the networks that control the missiles.
