— As expected, the Rockies today recalled utility man Eric Young Jr. from Colorado Springs to replace Jose Lopez on the roster. Lopez was designated for assignment after Thursday night’s loss to Arizona.
Lopez, a major off-season acquisition, hit .208 with two home runs and eight RBI and struggled in the field. He was projected to be the Rockies’ second baseman this year.
Young has spent parts of the last two seasons with the Rockies. In 42 games for the Sky Sox this season, he hit .363 with 13 doubles, eight triples, 45 runs, 32 walks and 17 stolen bases. Young got a major trial with the Rockies at the end of the 2010 season, but struggled.
