A dispute over a parking spot in Boulder Saturday led to a criminal mischief complaint against Denver Post sports reporter Natalie Meisler.
A 43-year-old Longmont man said Meisler, 60, used a key to scratch his pickup in the Whole Foods supermarket parking lot at 2905 Pearl St. at about 5:45 p.m.
The man told police he had been waiting for another driver to pull out of a spot, and when that driver did, a woman in a green Honda Civic, later identified as Meisler, scooted in to the empty space ahead of him.
He told police he blew his horn at her and she then backed her car out of the space, ceding it to him, but not before she mouthed an obscenity at him, according to the police report.
While his wife went into the store, he and his children waited in the 2011 Toyota Tacoma pickup, which has tinted windows. He said he heard a scraping noise at his rear passenger’s side, got out and saw a woman later identified as Meisler scratching a key across his car.
Meisler left before police arrived but was spotted a block away and questioned, then issued a summons to appear in court. She told police Knight had assaulted her by grabbing her arm, but she did not know why. Knight said he never touched Meisler.
Meisler showed police the key to her green Honda Civic, but it had no visible paint on it.
Police estimated the damage to Knight’s truck at $500.
Meisler is scheduled to appear before a municipal judge in Boulder on June 14.
She covers Colorado State University sports and has worked for the Denver Post since 1977.
