A woman driving without her headlights on was arrested Wednesday night after police discovered 49 pounds of marijuana in her vehicle.
At 10:45 p.m., officers were called to an accident at the intersection of Airport Road and S. Chelton Road, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department’s crime blotter.
The woman, Mahogany Aviles, 27, was traveling eastbound on Airport Road when she attempted to turn onto northbound Chelton Road. As she was turning, she was hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Airport Road.
The two children in Aviles’ car were not injured but, police say that they were not properly restrained.
No other injures were reported in the accident.
After searching Aviles’ vehicle, police discovered a box of marijuana on the back seat. The value of the marijuana was estimated to have a street value of $25,000.
Aviles was arrested and faces a charge of child abuse, distribution of marijuana and several traffic charges.
