So, you’d never guess which new Stapleton homes draw the highest sales rate from among typically savvy, trend-setting buyers moving up inside Stapleton itself. Something edgy?…contemporary?…loft-style in stainless steel? Actually, it’s the exact opposite – something you’ll experience today at a grand opening for Parkwood Homes in Stapleton’s Central Park West, where Parkwood unveils two Georgetown Collection models that are super traditional outside, loaded with new ideas inside.
“I love it,” said Cristal Rousseau, a doctor whose family are among five buyers already contracted for super-traditional Georgetown designs as of today’s opening…who was sneaking a peek in the new models. “You don’t see colonial anywhere else; it has character.”
Parkwood Homes, based in the Kentlands new-urban area in Maryland, makes a success of Stapleton (252 sales!) on just that formula. “We were the only builder at Stapleton invited from out-of-state,” notes Parkwood president Steve Wilcox. “This is a hipper demo than we sell to back east.” In return for bringing Georgians and Dutch colonials west, Wilcox and partner Jack Fleury find themselves bringing Stapleton ideas east – including the energy savings (“This is a much more green-conscious market here than around D.C.,” he adds).
You’re going to tour a new/old ‘Hudson Valley’ Dutch colonial (“People see it and they want to know who that builder is,” says Parkwood’s Heather Barben, who along with Dede Jeffery will put you together with a cold lemonade or a sweet tea). Also, a ‘Chesapeake’ Georgian-styled colonial that’s an updated version of Parkwood’s super-popular Oxford model. “Our average buyer comes from an older Denver neighborhood, and says ‘We didn’t think we’d ever want new,'” Barben adds. “They come here and see that they can have a sense of character, AND enough electrical outlets.”
…Actually, these homes are loaded with ideas: clever ‘drop zones’ off the garage entry; an option for automatic indoor lights; and a rooftop deck beside the master – not to count clever components that traditional American homes had 200 years ago: big, casement windows; and nooks-and-crannies under gables and stairs that are not only fun but practical.
Also, see the most colorful interiors by E Studio Design that you’ve seen anywhere this year; along with Stapleton’s newest area, with options to face your home onto a ‘mews’ tree lawn for pedestrians only. Prices start from $369,900; take Quebec north past Town Center and MLK to E. 35th Avenue, then east three blocks.
