LONGMONT, Colo.—Officials say a Longmont newborn was so determined to make a grand and speedy entrance that his father and an emergency dispatcher ended up delivering him.
Forty-two-year-old Mike Arredondo said he was on the phone with Longmont emergency dispatch when his son Daniel arrived.
Dispatcher Laura Randolph walked Arredondo through the process of tying off the umbilical cord and clearing the child’s airway while he waited for paramedics.
Arredondo told the Longmont Times-Call he and his wife had gone to the hospital early Thursday morning but were sent home when doctors decided she wasn’t dilated enough for birth.
She woke up a few hours later and told Arredondo the baby was coming. Arredondo said he managed the catch the baby while he was on the phone with Randolph.
