A 22-year-old CSU student was injured in a random shooting this morning while walking with friends near the campus in Fort Collins.
The shooting happened around 1:50 a.m. at Myrtle and Remington streets, according to a news release from Fort Collins police.
Police said the woman was walking from downtown Fort Collins to her home with several friends when a vehicle drove up slowly and then a gunshot was heard.
The woman was hit with in her midsection and fell to the ground, police said. An ambulance took her to the Medical Center of the Rockies where she is being treated.
Police identified her as Jamie Warfield of Fort Collins, 22. Police said in a news release that she is a Colorado State University student taking her last course before she graduates.
Witnesses described the vehicle as either a darker-colored truck or a light- or dark-colored sports utility vehicle.
“There was no altercation and the shooting appears to be random,” police said in the release.
