Loveland police are looking for a 29-year-old registered sex offender who allegedly took photographs of a young boy using the restroom at North Lake Park this afternoon.
The boy immediately told his parents, who called police. Officers arrived as Jakob Reuben Mayer of Loveland was driving away from the park in his white 1994 Chrysler LeBaron.
He sped away, including swerving into oncoming traffic, police said. Officers backed off after a short chase because of the risk to the public.
Mayer is described as white, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and about 230 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
The Colorado license plate number on his LeBaron is 631-VJI.
Anyone with information about Mayer’s whereabouts can call Loveland Detective Gerard Cortina at 970-962-2253 or the Loveland Police tip line at 970-962-2032. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
Records show Mayer pleaded guilty to child enticement in Larimer County in 2005 and was sentenced to two years in state prison and 10 years probation.
Mayer was arrested in December 2004 after someone who knew he had been a registered sex offender since he was juvenile saw Mayer trying to lure three 7- and 8-year-old boys to his car at a Pinewood Springs Volunteer Fire Department community event.
An event volunteer stopped Mayer and returned to the party. A subsequent investigation of Mayer’s home found illicit material, according to authorities at the time of his arrest.
