A toddler reported missing this afternoon apparently was forgetten at a pawn shop by his mother and grandmother, Colorado Springs police said Tuesday.
The mother, 19-year-old Sierra Lugo-Rodriguez, and grandmother, 44-year-old Donna Quintana, were each issued court summonses on misdemenator charges of child neglect.
The family called police at about 3 p.m. and said the 2-year-old had been missing from their home in the 1300 block East Second Street for about 5 minutes.
As officers and police dogs combed the neighobrhood, a person at Acme Pawn Shop at 427 North Chelton Road, more than 4 miles away, called police and said the boy had been there since about 2 p.m.
“The investigation revealed that the mother and grandmother of the child had been at the pawn shop at approximately 2 p.m.,” police said in a statement.
The Colorado Department of Human Services, which handles child welfare cases, was notified, police said.
Anyone with information about the case can call Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 719-634-7867.
