Drivers on the E-470 tollway can go a little faster.

The tollway board voted this morning to immediately raise the speed limit on the 47-mile road from 70 mph to 75 mph, the E-470 Public Highway Authority said in a news release.

The change will take effect immediately as new speed limit signs are posted starting later today.

“The board made the change because they want to provide greater time savings and added value for our customers,” E-470 Public Information Officer Jo Snell said in a statement.

The board had requested an engineering review to determine whether the speed limit could be increased to 75 mph. The results were presented today.

The E-470 toll road extends from C-470 at I-25 in Douglas County to I-25 just south of 160th Ave., in Thornton.

The E-470 Public Highway Authority is composed of eight local governments: Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties, and the municipalities of Aurora, Brighton, Commerce City, Parker and Thornton.
