BOULDER — There were some bumps, scratches and wipeoutsbut nothing could dampen the excitement for Boulder’s new Valmont Bike Park.
An idea 15 years in the making became a reality when the Boulder biking community celebrated the park’s opening Saturday morning.
Located at Valmont and Airport roads, the park features 40 acres of natural-surface riding and multiple trails and structures for any rider’s skill level, including a tricycle area for toddlers.
Valmont is a park designed for bikers, but unlike most similar bike parks, it’s free and open to the public.
Kirk Kincannon, director of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Department, said he was proud that the city opened such a unique park — one of only a handful certified by the International Cycling Union.
“It’s one of a kind in the U.S.,” Kincannon said.
