Matt Brown was promoted to associate head coach of the University of Denver men’s lacrosse team, an NCAA Tournament semifinalist this year.
Brown will continue to be the Pioneers’ offensive coordinator, DU head coach Bill Tierney said.
Trevor Tierney stepped down as a full-time assistant on the DU staff to be a volunteer assistant for his father. Dylan Sheridan was promoted from volunteer assistant to the No. 2 assistant, Brown’s former role.
“We wanted nothing to happen to change the chemistry of our coaching staff,” Bill Tierney said in a statement issued Tuesday by DU. “As Trevor’s decision to move to the volunteer job came to light, there was obviously going to be some movement.”
Bill Tierney coached Princeton to six NCAA titles and 10 Final Four berths in 22 years before moving to DU two years ago. He credits Brown, a former DU player, for much of the Pioneers’ recent success.
