Authorities are considering charging a Denver couple with first-degree murder after a 3-month-old baby boy was found dead inside their apartment over the weekend. Amanda Deleon and Calvin Pitts have already been charged with felony child abuse.
Deleon’s aunt is coming to her defense, saying she’d never intentionally hurt anyone.
Lisa McIntosh says she spent years living with Deleon, and says her niece was almost like a second mother to her own two young children. When she got the news Deleon might have harmed her own, first-born child, McIntosh says she simply couldn’t believe it.
McIntosh describes Deleon as an intelligent person who had fallen on hard times over the past few years, living on the streets of Denver and having some problems with the law. She says recently, Deleon had been trying to turn her life around.
McIntosh says Deleon started dating Calvin Pitts about nine months ago, and says ever since then the couple’s relationship with the rest of the family has been strained.
