PUEBLO, Colo.—Fire agencies in Pueblo County have declared the area to be under high fire danger and are pledging rigorous enforcement of fire restrictions.

The restrictions prohibit outdoor welding and cigarette smoking, fireworks, campfires, charcoal grills, burning of agricultural debris or recreational fires, such as fire pits or backyard fireplaces.

Penalties will include fines, confiscations and mandatory court appearances. Officials in the southern Colorado county noted that wildfires have recently erupted across the area. A 2,500-acre fire is burning to the west in Fremont and Custer counties and more hot, dry weather is expected to keep the fire risk high.
