ALAMOSA, Colo.—A Colorado murder suspect is back in custody after slipping out of his handcuffs, overpowering a sheriff’s deputy and taking off in the deputy’s patrol car.
The Conejos (koh-NAY’-hohs) County sheriff’s office says 33-year-old Tyron Jay Martinez was being driven from court to the Alamosa County jail Thursday afternoon when he got out of his cuffs and got away in the deputy’s unmarked patrol car. The car didn’t have a cage that holds prisoners.
Authorities tell KRDO-TV that Martinez was found about three hours later in Gunnison County. They say Martinez was being held on first-degree homicide charges.
