BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado has named a language professor to head the Boulder campus’ journalism and mass communication faculty.

Provost Russell L. Moore named professor Christopher Braider, a professor of French and Italian, to head the department. Moore told the Boulder Daily Camera on Friday that he chose Braider because of his long tenure on campus and his leadership experience.

CU officials said he will not teach journalism or be directly involved in curriculum design.

Regents voted to discontinue the journalism program in April because they said it failed to adapt to the changing media landscape.
