A Denver man who died after being pulled from Clear Creek over the weekend has been identified.

Andrew Allen Gomez Sr., 46, died Sunday after being pulled from Clear Creek in Golden, the Jefferson County Corner’s Office said today.

Gomez, dressed in swimming trunks and not wearing any wet gear or flotation device, was “body surfing” in Clear Creek when he started calling out for help, said Karlyn Tilley, a Golden spokeswoman.

Three people pulled him from the swollen, fast-running waters and began performing CPR, Tilley said.

Emergency dispatchers fielded a 911 call at 4:45 p.m.

Gomez was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Lakewood where he was pronounced dead.

The coroner’s office is awaiting test results as part of its autopsy and did not release an official cause of death.
