A woman suspected of killing a 33-year-old man and seriously injuring his sister and daughter in a collision just days after she was sentenced for driving while impaired will appear in court this afternoon.
Lisa Norton, 32, is charged with five felonies and two misdemeanors for the Saturday evening crash, including vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident involving death and driving without a license.
She was released from Longmont United Hospital yesterday and taken to the Boulder County jail, where she is being held on $1 million bond.
Authorities say Norton’s Ford Ranger pick-up crossed the center lane on Nelson Road near 63rd Avenue in Longmont, hitting a Nissan coupe driven by Gabriel Nielsen, 33, of Boulder.
Nielsen was killed. His sister, Cherish Francis, 34, and 2-year-old daughter Avery Nielsen were seriously injured. Both remain hospitalized.
After the crash, Norton tried to flee by jumping in a nearby lake. She was stopped by some boaters, who turned her over to police.
On June 23, Norton was sentenced to one year probation for driving while impaired.
She is scheduled to appear in court in Boulder County at 2 p.m. today to be advised of the charges against her.
