GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Workers with nuclear materials have filed 25 new applications with the Department of Labor seeking compensation for radiation exposure.
The claims were filed Tuesday in Grand Junction for the workers, including some who died of cancer.
Officials with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health established a special classification for the workers earlier this year at the request of former Grand Junction Mayor Cindy Enos-Martinez, whose father died from stomach cancer after working for 32 years for federal agencies dealing with nuclear power.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, claimants can be awarded as much as $50,000 and receive medical coverage.
