Human Society officers are investigating the death of a dog they say was stabbed and killed in Colorado Springs on Saturday
The Colorado Springs Police Department reported a potential dog shooting in the 1600 block of Highland Way, according to a news release from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
Humane Society officers were asked to assist in the investigation, which initially led officers to believe that some kind of wildlife may have played a role in the German shepherd’s death.
A Division of Wildlife biologist examined the dog and determined that wildlife was not a factor in the dog’s death, and the investigation later revealed that the dog was killed by a “human with a large blade.”
“This is a heinous act of animal cruelty against someone’s loved companion animal,” said Jan McHugh-Smith, president and CEO of HSPPR.
The Humane Society is launching a full investigation into the death.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region Animal Law Enforcement Dispatch at 719-473-1741
