Two people were aboard a plane that crashed in Custer County this afternoon sparking a 40-acre wildfire, local and federal authorities said.
The Federal Aviation Administration initially said two people were killed. Television stations in Colorado Springs tonight that reporting one person was killed and another was taken to the hospital.
A spokeswoman for the Custer County Sheriff’s Department said at 8:30 p.m. that no information regarding those aboard would be released tonight.
The crash at about 4 p.m. caused a wildfire near Colorado Highway 96 and Custer County Road 358 on the edge of the San Isabel National Forest, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The Federal Aviation Administration has not yet released information about the plane, its pilot and passenger or its destination.
Fire crews from the U.S. Forest Service, Wetmore and Florence are fighting the fire.
