Rockies star center fielder Carlos Gonzalez injured both wrists today after crashing into the wall in Colorado’s 16-8 loss to the Kansas City Royals at Coors Field.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy, however, seemed relieved when discussing Gonzalez’s condition after the game.
“We don’t think there’s anything serious,” Tracy said.
As of yet, however, there has been no conclusive diagnosis from X-rays of the wrists. Gonzalez, who drove in six runs in the loss, including a three-run homer, was hurt in the seventh inning after catching Brayan Pena’s drive to left-center. Gonzalez went hard into the wall and fence, with his right side taking the brunt of the force.
“He was more sore on the glove hand, his right wrist,” Tracy said. “But he did have a pretty good mark on the left one. Obviously, when he went face-first into the wall — both hands were in there at the same time and he probably caught a little bit of that fence where it (meets the wall).”
