A Fort Collins woman was physically assaulted before she jumped from a second-story window during a fire Tuesday morning, police said, and she is in critical condition.
At 5:33 a.m., a call was received about an apartment fire in the 1200 block of Pomona Street, according to the Fort Collins Police Department and the Poudre Fire Authority.
The caller reported smoke coming from an upstairs window on the south side of the apartment.
Authorities found a 30-year-old woman in the backyard.
The woman was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies, where she was listed in critical condition Tuesday. Officers have not spoken to the woman because of the severity of her injuries.
The woman was injured during the fire and her jump from the window. Doctors confirmed the woman was physically assaulted, but police would not release details about her injuries.
Firefighters did not find anyone in the apartment, and there did not appear to be any forced entry.
Police did not release any information about a possible suspect.
The woman had recently moved to Fort Collins from Longmont and was living alone in the apartment.
Police are working to retrace the woman’s whereabouts Monday and are interviewing her family and friends.
Authorities released the woman’s name, but The Denver Post is withholding it because she is the victim of a violent crime and the perpetrator is still at large.
