GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A dispute over funding with Utah could force Colorado to close one of its truck weigh stations in western Colorado, forcing truckers to use one eastbound facility.
The Colorado Department of Revenue had been planning to close the weigh station on the westbound side of Interstate 70 on Friday because Utah backed out of a long-standing agreement to share funding for it.
Utah Department of Transportation spokesman Chad Sheppick says Colorado changed the rules and Utah workers can’t be subject to a new Colorado law which bars anyone but Colorado troopers from doing the inspections.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, the Colorado department plans to leave the port open until Colorado lawmakers can review their decision on July 11.
