An Air Force pilot from Colorado who disappeared over North Vietnam in 1966 is being buried at the Air Force Academy three months after his remains were identified.
Col. Leo S. Boston of Canon City will be buried Friday in a cemetery on the grounds of the school north of Colorado Springs.
Boston was flying an A-1 Skyraider when he became separated from other aircraft on a search-and-rescue mission. He was listed as missing in action until 1978, when his status was changed to presumed dead.
He was a captain when he disappeared and was promoted to colonel while on MIA status.
Between 1996 and 2005, U.S.-Vietnamese teams recovered human remains and aircraft wreckage in the area where Boston disappeared.
Boston’s remains were identified with DNA testing on April 4.
