DENVER—About 1,000 people spent the night at Denver International Airport following a hail storm that damaged some aircraft and canceled some flights.

The storm caused delays up to about an hour and some flights were canceled Wednesday night because of a severe thunderstorm that moved through the metro area. More flight delays were reported Thursday morning but it wasn’t immediately clear how many.

Airport spokeswoman Laura Coale said the stranded passengers weren’t given blankets or cots because the airlines didn’t request the airport to enact the stranded passenger plan.

She said multiple airlines have aircraft damaged by the hail, which was about three-quarters of an inch in diameter.

No damage has been reported to the airport itself.
