Rapids forward Conor Casey underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of an injury that is being listed as a left calf-Achilles tendon strain.
Casey, the Rapids’ leading scorer, was injured during their 4-3 loss at Seattle on Saturday. He traveled home that night on crutches.
Casey’s absence would be a big blow to the Rapids’ lineup. They play Wednesday night at home against the New York Red Bulls. Casey scored six goals in the preceding seven games but left Saturday’s game in the 38th minute without scoring. He was visibly upset in the aftermath of the injury.
If his Achilles tendon is torn, Casey could be out for the season. David Beckham ruptured his Achilles in March 2010 and didn’t return to the field until six months later.
The Rapids also play at home Saturday night against the New England Revolution.
