COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Tuskegee airman is getting a replacement medal after someone stole the one he was given by Congress in 2007.
Frank Macon says it’s not the original, but he appreciates the recognition for his part of a group of African American pilots who fought in World War II.
Word spread quickly when the medal was stolen more than a month ago. It was one of 300 medals given to the surviving members of the Tuskegee airmen in 2007.
The replacement medal obtained by the Air Force from the U.S. mint will be presented at a ceremony Friday beneath the Tuskegee airmen statue at the academy, according to KKTV-TV.
