A 45-year-old Lakewood man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a string of burglaries at Front Range golf courses and other businesses.

Marc Pierre Friel also was ordered to pay more than $121,000 in restitution, Colorado Attorney General John Suthers’ office announced today.

Friel was indicted in March on 20 felony counts, including burglary, theft, criminal mischief and aggravated motor vehicle theft.

The indictment alleged that between November 2009 and June 2010, Friel broke into at least eight golf courses, Eurosport Limited Racing in Brighton and Kustom Kar Audio in Boulder.

Authorities said that in each burglary, he cut electrical wires or dismantled alarm systems or other security systems, such as fencing or padlocks, then stole tools, golf clubs, computers, audio equipment and other items.

He also was accused of stealing an 1985 Chevy truck from Foothills Park and Recreation in Littleton. When police later found the truck at an RTD park-n-ride, it had heavy damage to the front end, cab and windshield, according to the indictment.

Among the golf courses burglarized were Fox Hollow, Rolling Hills, Stoney Creek Broadlands and Colorado National.

Friel pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and was sentenced earlier this month to two 10-year sentences, to be served consecutively. The sentence will run concurrently with a 15-year sentence he received for a related case in Arapahoe County.

Friel has a criminal record in Colorado that dates back to 1986 and includes arrests for theft, drug-related offenses, contempt of court and domestic violence.

In 2004 he was sentenced to five years in prison for burglary in Firestone, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
