A downtown Denver office building was evacuated this morning when smoke and haze filled the 16th floor.

The incident happened at about 8:40 a.m. at 1401 17th St., said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.

Office workers in the Alamo Plaza were evacuated, as a safety precaution, for about an hour as firefighters looked for the source of the smoke.

The smoke streamed from a mechanical room where a circuit board overheated, Champagne said.

Traffic around the building was tied up as firefighters checked out the incident.

There was no fire and no one was injured.
