Last week, the Cochrane property was identified as a key piece in Eagle County’s vision for a recreation corridor along the Colorado River from State Bridge to Dotsero.
This week, the county inked a deal to purchase the land.
Tuesday, the Eagle County Commissioners approved at $730,000 deal to buy the 17-acre property located at 18231 Colorado Highway 131. The land includes river frontage and a site for a future put-in or pull-out ramp for boaters. The commissioners also noted that the property abuts a state land board parcel which could potentially open up 543 acres to public use.
While the county officials called the Cochrane purchase a strategically important open space buy, some property neighbors were less enthused with the deal. They noted access concerns and questioned the purchase price.
