The odor that forced an evacuation at the Comfort Suites hotel in Centennial this afternoon turned out to be bear repellant.
The repellant was released into a room on the second floor of the hotel located at 7374 South Clinton Street, officials said.
When a staff member went to clean the room after the guest checked out, they reported seeing a strange fog and smelling a strange odor, South Metro Fire Rescue Public Information Officer Becky O’Guin said.
South Metro and Englewood Fire responded to the call along with hazardous materials teams. Once they determined bear repellant was the cause of the strange odor, they ventilated the hotel to clear the air.
Guest are being allowed to reenter the hotel.
