BRIGHTON — A city employee is in jail and police are looking for an accomplice in a scheme in which they are suspected of stealing an undetermined amount of city cash and checks.

Bernadette Haigh, 41, a seven-year veteran of the utilities department, told police Friday she was robbed after business hours at City Hall, Brighton police said.

Police said they think Haigh’s report is a hoax, part of a plot to steal city funds earmarked for bank deposit. She is being held on suspicion of felony theft, false reporting and conspiracy.

Police said they are seeking Clarence Puller, 48, a suspected accomplice. Anyone with information should call 303-655-2343.
