MEEKER, Colo.—The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission is investigating an energy company accused of walking away from wells in Rio Blanco County.

West Hawk Energy is accused of leaving behind eight wells needing attention and pads that must be cleaned up and reclaimed.

The commission will consider in August whether to find West Hawk in violation of its rules and impose a fine. The company did not return calls seeking comment and the commission says it has been unable to contact the company.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ) says West Hawk’s bond is insufficient to cover the needed work.
