Six people were taken to the hospital Monday afternoon, after a body and a bottle of a hazardous material were found inside a Colorado Springs apartment.

At 3 p.m., firefighters were called to 3214 N. Chestnut Street on a report of an obvious death, according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

A paramedic entered the apartment, where they found the body and said a hazardous material was inside. A hazardous material crew was called to the scene.

Inside the apartment, firefighters found a open bottle labeled “Sodium Cyanide.”

As a precautionary measure, one paramedic, one police officer, two AMR personnel and two other people were taken to the hospital for exposure. They were treated and released with no health complications.

No one was evacuated from the apartment complex.

The cause of death has not yet been determined and the man has not been identified.
