DENVER—State officials are testing for West Nile virus after monsoon rains brought mosquitoes out in force.
So far, Colorado officials have confirmed only one human case of the virus, which can cause flulike symptoms and sometimes death.
The Denver Post reports ( ) that a 47-year-old Longmont woman tested positive for the illness earlier this summer. She told officials she did not know where she contracted it.
State health officials say August is one of the peak periods for the hatching of mosquitoes capable of transmitting the virus.
