LVI Environmental Services in Denver has been awarded a $1.2 million contract for the demolition of the abandoned Cloverleaf Kennel Club at the intersection of Interstate 25 and U.S. 34 near Loveland.

The selection was made by the McWhinney company of Loveland, which is overseeing the project.

Initial stages of the removal of the 56-year-old race track, located at 2527 NW Frontage Road, are expected to start this week, and the project is projected to be completed by mid-November.

Poudre Valley Health Systems currently owns the property which has not been used in three years. However, no immediate plans have been announced for future development of the site.

According to McWhinney, LVI Environmental Services is the country’s largest remediation and facility services firm.

“We feel confident in LVI to see this five-month project through completion,” said Jim Niemczyk, McWhinney project manager. “LVI has an outstanding history of successful dismantlement projects in sensitive community and public settings, making safety and community health a top priority.”

Niemczyk said those were the key factors in awarding the contract to LVI. LVI will ensure safety to surrounding businesses and residences at Centerra which is adjacent to the project site, said Niemczyk.
