Denver residents are plagued by a stench rising off of the Highline Canal as it winds its way through the University Hills neighborhood.
The Denver Fire Department checked on complaints of an overwhelming odor at about 4 p.m. Wednesday and were called back out again at about 7:25 a.m. today, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a department spokesman.
Firefighters monitored the smelly area and didn’t find any hazardous materials or chemicals, Champagne said.
“It’s a noxious smell,” he said. “It smells like garlic.”
Fire department investigators believe the odor is organic and the Denver Department of Environmental Health is on scene this morning looking into the issue.
