Barring another unforeseen gambit by Fort Collins, building of a high voltage power line that will provide secure power to Loveland and prevent potential blackouts will proceed on schedule.
Loveland city councilors, after hearing a detailed description of the seven-mile Horseshoe-Dixon power line project from Platte River Power Authority officials, voted 9-0 to direct the agency to proceed with the construction schedule that will bring the project online next spring.
The special council meeting on Tuesday arose from a letter a week ago from Fort Collins officials seeking Loveland’s agreement to a two- to three-month delay in the project for the purpose of “investigating alternatives” to the project design.
“I’m not sure there are viable alternatives, to be honest,” PRPA general manager Brian Moeck told councilors. “This project ought to be completed as designed.”
Fort Collins councilors, responding to concerns from residents, had taken a position that the above-ground power line that traverses the city’s Pineridge Natural Area in west Fort Collins would be a visual blight, despite the fact it would replace an existing overhead line.
