Multiple 9-1-1 calls reported an injured man hiking between the summits of of Mount Bierstadt and Mount Evans in Clear Creek County this afternoon.

Rescuers mobilized to the Abyss Lake area, but the injured man “apparently wasn’t as hurt as we had been lead to believe,” said Alpine Rescue spokesman Bill Barwick.

They never found him. Barwick said he didn’t expect an investigation into the calls, but rather assumes the man hiked out on his own.

“But we don’t know, because we never found him,” Barwick said.

Two rescue crews of two rescuers each were dropped into the area to look for the reportedly injured man after calls came in about 1 p.m.. The popular hiking trail between the summits of the two Fourteeners in Clear Creek County is rated as intermediate difficulty, according to hiking guides.
