Fast-moving thunderstorms are sweeping across northeastern Colorado this afternoon, but as of 3:15 p.m. no damage had been reported, according to the National Weather Service.
Lingering monsoonal weather will combine with upper atmospheric disturbances to create the potential for stormy weather across most of the state through the evening, forecasters said.
Seven Colorado counties — Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma — are under a thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected in the foothills and adjacent plains, bringing brief heavy rain and gusty winds on some areas. Forecasters warn that hail could fall on the northeastern plains.
Denver has a 40 percent chance of precipitation today, mostly before 8 p.m., according to the forecast.
Rain chances along the Continental Divide, Grand Junction, Steamboat Springs and Durango are 40 percent to 60 percent this afternoon.
The week ahead calls for sunny skies across most of the state, with highs in the 80s to low 90s and a 10 percent to 20 percent chance of rain each day.
