Three women were robbed at gunpoint along Boulder Creek this afternoon near the Boulder County Justice Center and the suspect fired a shot from his handgun as he left on a bicycle, police said.
The women, in their early 20s, were not hurt, and investigators say they don’t believe the suspect fired the shot at or near the victims, said Kim Kobel, Boulder police spokeswoman.
Kobel said the three women — one who is new to Boulder, and two foreign friends who arrived in town today to visit — were sitting near the creek when a man approached, brandished a handgun and told them to get into the water.
At that point, he grabbed their purses and rode off on his bicycle, which is when his gun discharged, Kobel said.
