“Jane Eyre”
*** (out of 4)
Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” with Mia Wasikowska as Jane and Michael Fassbender as the storm warning known as Edward Rochester. Jane is bullied, beaten, cowed, humiliated and marginalized by her guardians, her Lowood schoolmasters and the wider world around her, only to arrive at Thornfield Hall to be governess. PG-13. 2 hours, 1 minute. Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
“Something Borrowed”
* 1/2 (out of 4)
“Something Borrowed” made us blue. Based on Emily Giffin’s best seller, this grating comedy follows the tribulations of Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) once she sleeps with best friend Darcy’s (Kate Hudson) fiance. The movie twists itself into a knot trying to make the betrayal OK. It can’t. (No, it doesn’t matter that Darcy is smitten with herself.) John Krasinski makes the movie a smidge more tolerable as Ethan, Rachel’s friend with a jaundiced perspective on the whole affair. PG-13. 1 hour, 30 minutes. Lisa Kennedy, The Denver Post
