PARK COUNTY — Search and rescue teams were unable Sunday and Monday to retrieve a body they believe to be missing hiker Frank Stanley.
Crews found the body Saturday afternoon in rugged terrain near McCurdy Creek, east of 12,431-foot Bison Peak, where Stanley, 44, told friends he was hiking on July 25. The body is at an elevation of about 9,000 feet.
The area, on the back side of the peak, is rocky and rugged. The body was found close to a stream.
A helicopter and a trained climbing team will be used to retrieve the body today.
Stanley was last heard from July 25 when he sent a text message from the top of Bison Peak to a friend.
