EXpressToll, which supplies plastic-encased transponders for use on the E-470 and Northwest Parkway toll roads and I-25 Express Lanes, is now offering a new peel-and-stick windshield tag as an alternative to the bulkier hard-case transponder.
The new-style toll-recording device is similar to an oil change sticker and motorists should mount it on the inside lower left corner of their windshield, said E-470 spokeswoman Jo Ellen Snell.
The sticker tags will be issued to new EXpressToll customers, and those motorists with the old transponders can swap them for the new tags, Snell said.
The tags are far less costly for EXpressToll to acquire and supply to its customers, she added. Hard-case transponders cost toll authorities about $17.50 each, compared with $1.25 for the stickers.
EXpressToll customers do not pay for transponders or the new stickers, but they must set up a pre-paid toll account that costs $35, from which tolls are automatically deducted.
EXpressToll, which is operated by E-470, said it has issued 800,000 transponders to 380,000 accounts.
Later this year, EXpressToll is expected to launch a campaign to get transponder users to exchange the devices for the new decals. Motorists will be able to make the exchange at about 70 retail locations along the Front Range and at the EXpressToll Service Center, E-470 said.
