Federal officials today said the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will get $25 million from the Federal Transit Administration for bus-rapid transit service on Colorado 82 between Glenwood Springs and Aspen.

The project calls for buses to operate on special “priority” lanes and for the route to offer enclosed bus shelters, onboard WiFi service and real-time “next-bus” information signs.

In addition, nine bus stations and five park-and-ride facilities will be constructed along the 40-mile route, and the grant will help with the purchase of 15 new clean-diesel buses, the FTA said. Total cost of the project is $46.1 million.
