The driver of a hopper truck that got stuck under an overpass and clogged traffic on Interstate 70 for five hours Saturday afternoon may have to pay for repairs. So may the company that employs him.
Just as with any traffic accident, “the at-fault vehicle is responsible for any damages,” said Colorado State Patrol spokesman Eric Wynn.
Rodney Mullins, of B.K.L. Trucking in Tennessee, had a permit to travel under the C-470 bridge but should have been in a different lane with higher clearance, said CDOT spokeswoman Stacey Stegman. On Monday, inspecters were still assessing damages. She said there is no timeline yet for repairing the bridge.
Mullins was cited for careless driving and must pay a $150 fine and $17 surcharge, Wynn said. Mullins told KCNC-Channel 4 he plans to fight the citation. Liz Navratil, The Denver Post
