FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Three Fort Collins teenage girls are being honored for turning in more than $1,100 in cash they found in a field near their homes.
Interim Police Chief Jerry Schiager will honor the 13-year-old girls in a ceremony Tuesday.
Fort Collins police spokeswoman Rita Davis says the girls found the money Feb. 21 and told one of the girls’ mother, who called police. KMGH-TV reports ( ) that during a follow up investigation, police found a fake gun, a mask and more cash from a robbery of a local clothing store that led to a suspect.
Twenty-six-year-old Chad Allen Mahan of Windsor pleaded guilty to armed robbery and false imprisonment in the Jan. 12 robbery. He was sentenced in July to six years in prison.
