A rock climber who fell 70 feet on Longs Peak today waited hours for weather to clear before he could be airlifted to a Denver hospital.

His injuries kept him from walking, but were not thought to be life-threatening, according to a media release from Rocky Mountain National Park.

The 29-year-old man was not identified. He was climbing the North Chimney Route on the east face of Longs Peak when he fell at about 9:30 a.m.

Park rangers reached him and other climbers caring for him at about 11:30 a.m. Weather kept a helicopter from landing in the area until after 3 p.m., according to the press release.
