EVANS — A man who shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked his dog will not be charged, police said.

The pit bull, Deuce, was shot and killed Monday after he escaped from his yard, jumped a fence and attacked a 6-year-old shepherd mix named Chief, police said. The owner, whose name has not been released, shot Deuce after his attempts to pull him off Chief were unsuccessful.

Deuce’s owner, Robert Delarosa, 34, was cited on a municipal charge of unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog. Deuce had been cited in attacks on two other dogs.
